Play tux paint online now1/22/2024 To protect a city from a comet, type the letter on the comet and it will cause Tux to destroy it with a laser! (In case you wondered, Comet Zap is an adaptation of the great math drill game, “Tux, of Math Command”). “Lessons” and “Phrase Typing” are additional typing activities. These features are not yet completed, but represent ways to add additional “content” without requiring more programming per se. “Phrase Typing” involves typing of phrases or complete sentences, with measurment of accuracy and typing speed. The current phrases in the default (English) theme are a collection of pangrams (sentences with all 26 letters) as well as some well-known quotes from public domain literature. At some point we will make this easy for teachers to modify, so sentences related to a current study topic might be used. “Lessons” uses XML-based scripting to run various other parts of the program in a specified order, including the “Practice” activity. As of version 1.8.0, the default theme for Tux Typing now has a substantial collection of finger exercises (“ basic_lesson_01” to “ basic_lesson_43”) that progressively introduce the keys on the keyboard. Painting for kids (and others) with Tux Paintįor the last few months I’ve been concentrating on tools that are more interesting for older kids. This month I will highlight a great tool for younger kids that fits with this month’s art theme. You can download it for free for any major operating system at Overview Today we look at a free painting program called “Tux Paint.” It was inspired by an older program called “Kid Pix,” but Tux Paint might be even better (and it’s free!) Tux paint was designed to be a kid-friendly drawing program. Tux paint is just about the most kid-friendly program I’ve ever seen. It’s designed so the adult can set it up and even very young children can enjoy it thoroughly. Simple, consistent controls - The interface is easy to understand, and works consistently.External configuration - The configurations are done in a separate program, so you can set up the program exactly how you like, and the kid won’t have access to configurations, so they won’t accidentally change things. It’s also got sophisticated enough features for siblings and parents to enjoy. Modern paint programs can be very complicated, but this one is basic. The tools are on the left, colors are on the bottom, and options are on the right.Lots of fun - Many of the tools have goofy sound effects, and the exit screen is so fun my kids used to exit and re-enter the program just because they thought the exit sound was so hilarious. There are many fun options like sparkles, bricks, smudging, and rainbows. A penguin mascot often explains what's going on in the program.
